Fellow Gaels,

It’s that time of the year again, training has started and the 2011 season is upon us already. Last year for the first time in six years Tyrone GFC NY expanded by entering two teams in the NY championship, this year there is further expansion in the form of a youth Gaelic football program.

Tyrone have had twelve coaches complete the foundation course in the hope of passing on their knowledge and experience to the youth of New York and in turn creating a new pool of footballers for the future. We are taking a longer term strategic view of our club and eventually we would like to be in the position where we can field both boys and girl’s teams at all under age levels.

The 2010 season finished without any silverware however we succeeded in fielding strong senior and junior teams throughout the season. Last year Tyrone GFC NY had over fifty players involved which is an achievement in itself. The re-introduction of the junior team again attracted new players and members from all over and has brought the club back to being up there with the top clubs in New York.

This new season will bring many challenges both on and of the field. Tyrone GFC NY has a strong committee and management team. Again financing the clubs season is one of the toughest tasks and the new finance committee is already hard at work finalizing new fundraising initiatives. Any and all contributions to our new ventures are very much appreciated.

Our management team for 2011 is Colm Donnelly, Barry Mc Elduff and Paul Hagan. Colm has just arrived from Ireland and we are very lucky to have someone with his playing and management experience guide us into the new season.

Finally I would like to wish good luck to both our senior and junior teams in the championships and to our new youth program which is creating a lot of renewed enthusiasm and enjoyment.
